Templates and shot presets

A Studio piece is built from pieces that fit together: shot presets that each add one camera move, and templates that lay out a whole cut from them.

The pieces

Shot preset

One camera move, such as landing on the project, moving closer or drifting across it. In the Templates tab they are listed under Shot templates. Choosing one adds it as a new shot after the one you are on. Each preset has its own length, so a quick move stays quick.

Template

A finished cut: several presets in order, already timed, with fades or cuts between them, listed under Project templates. Each shot picks up where the previous one left off in your project's content, such as its pages or screens. Choosing one adds it as a new row on the timeline, after the row you have selected.

Text, images and music

Layers on top of the shots, each with its own start, length and fades.

Look

Set per shot: background, blur and focus, border, exposure, warmth and a handheld shake.

How they fit together

Once a piece is on the timeline it is an ordinary shot or layer, so you can mix them freely.

  1. Start with a template to get the structure.
  2. Delete the shots you do not need, and add other presets in their place.
  3. Add presets of your own between them, from any group.
  4. Choose a cut or a fade between two shots.
  5. Put a title, a logo or music on top, and adjust the look of a shot if it needs it.

A template never replaces your work: it adds a new row after the one you have selected.

Shot preset groups

Presets are sorted by what the camera does. Studio offers the presets that suit the project's type: a set shared by every type, plus moves tuned to that type.

GroupWhat it does
Land & settleOpens on the project and settles into a frame. Good first shots.
Move closerMoves in on a detail.
Slow driftSlow travel across or around the project, for the middle of a piece.
Pull awayPulls back and away. Good last shots.
ContentMoves that use the project's own content, such as turning pages or scrolling a screen. They depend on the type.
EnergeticFast moves for launch-style edits. Every other group keeps to speed limits so the camera stays smooth; this one is the exception, and you pick it on purpose.

What each project type adds

The content moves are the ones that change with the type. This table is read from the same catalogue the editor uses.

Template paces

In the Templates tab, templates are sorted by pace. The pace sets how long the finished cut runs and how it goes from one shot to the next.

PaceLengthBetween shotsTemplates
Calm28 to 70 sFadesCalm presentation, Slow gallery, Unhurried tour, Opening statement, Slow study, Long approach, Quiet orbit, Closing reveal

Punchy5 to 22 sMostly cutsFast teaser, Three beats, Quick hits, Snap tour, One breath, Cut in, Flash pass, Sign off

Templates are tuned for each project type, so the exact length depends on the type and on how much content the project has.
