3D mug mockup: your design on a mug that turns
A flat mockup photo hides the mug's handle side. Here the whole print turns in the browser, so a buyer sees it all before it goes to print.
How to make a mug mockup: size the art for the mug's print band, pick a wrap or a front print, and publish a 3D mug that turns in the browser.
You open the mug template, paste the design in and export. On the mockup it looks fine. Then the design is cut off at the handle, or a centred logo ends up behind it, because the template and the print area never agreed.
Most of a good mug mockup is decided before the upload: the proportions of the art, and where it should sit. i3Dify's Mug project makes both explicit, so you can get them right in the file.
The printable band on the mug is 2.45 times as long as it is tall. It runs 300 degrees around the wall, from one side of the handle to the other, with a 60 degree gap at the handle and a small margin under the rim and above the base. A wrap design exported at that ratio fills the band exactly.
Any other ratio still works, at a cost. The design is scaled to cover the whole band and the overflow is cropped, never stretched. A wider image loses its two ends, a taller one loses its top and bottom. Both ends of a wrap finish at the handle gap, so keep lettering and faces well inside them.
Not every design wants to wrap. A logo, a badge or a short quote reads best on one face. With placement on Auto, any image less than 1.8 times as wide as it is tall is printed on the front, centred, at about four fifths of the band's height. A very wide logo is scaled down so it never runs more than 130 degrees around.
Export logos as PNG with a transparent background. Transparent pixels stay unprinted, so the mug's own colour shows around the mark instead of a white box. The Print placement setting overrides Auto for the whole project. Wrap sends every design around, Front puts every design on the face.
Create a Mug project and upload the images. Each image becomes one design on the same mug, in the order you set, and the visitor switches with a tap, the arrow keys or the dock. Put the variants a buyer should compare in one project. Split them only when they are different products.
Then set the object. Mug colour and inside colour are two pickers, and the finish is glossy or matte. Auto-rotate turns the mug on its own, with a speed slider. The counter shows which design is on screen. Autoplay steps through the designs every 2 to 15 seconds, and Loop starts again after the last.
Publish, then share the link or copy the iframe embed code for a product page or a portfolio. Add a design later and publish again, and the link stays the same. A mockup sent to a client can grow without a new email. Several mug projects can also sit on one page as a collection. On the free plan the viewer carries the i3Dify watermark.
The real mug still depends on the print shop. The mockup shows placement and proportion, not the ink on a particular blank. For the format and when to pick it, read the 3D mug mockup guide.
Get the ratio right in the file and the mockup has nothing to hide. Make your mug mockup.
Upload a PDF or a few images, pick a project type and share the link. The free plan is enough to try it.
